The Moorland Family YMCA at Oak Cliff will be the first branch to implement monthly workshops tailored to help job seekers with resume writing, interview preparation, and career placement.

Career Readiness Workshops are held on the 2nd and 3rd Tuesdays, and Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas will provide the tools and career experts on-site while YMCA Dallas will provide the workspace and guidance for members and visitors.

“At the Y, we specialize in connecting partners who are already making an impact, with communities that need their support the most,” said Latecia Patton, Vice President of Equity Initiatives at the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. “We know that the community is less likely to go into places they’re unfamiliar with, so by providing a space at the Y that feels comfortable and safe, it increases opportunity visibility and creates a sense of trust,” said Patton.

According to a recent report by United Way, “In Dallas County, over 40% of families are working hard but are not financially stable: nearly half a million families (477,494) are working hard but still don’t earn enough to cover basic needs.”

In addition to the introduction of soft skills, experts will also help job seekers in interviewing fundamentals, remote work preparation for success, and access to computers and internet.

“Our partnership with the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas allows Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas to bring vital career services directly to the community,” said Ashlee Verner, Interim President/CEO of Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas. “Through workshops like resume-building at the Moorland YMCA location, we’re making it easier for people to access the tools they need to succeed. These sessions provide practical support to help participants strengthen their job search and improve their employability, empowering them to advance in their careers.”
