According to data from Best Friends Animal Society, which aggregates data from nearly 4,000 shelters nationwide, DAS was one of the top-ranked shelters for total pet adoptions in 2024. With 12,261 pets adopted in 2024, DAS achieved an impressive 41% increase in adoptions compared to 2023 – that’s 3,580 more pets who found loving homes from DAS. DAS not only led the state of Texas by a wide margin but also achieved the highest year-over-year increase in adoptions nationwide, with 3,580 more adoptions than in 2023—a 41% increase.

This historic growth means DAS was responsible for nearly 4% of the national increase in shelter adoptions.

“We’re incredibly proud of what this team has accomplished,” said Paul Ramon, Director of Dallas Animal Services. “These numbers represent thousands of lives saved and families made whole—and we’re just getting started. With ongoing evaluations and investments in the adoption process and continued support from the city and our community, we expect even more lifesaving impact in 2025.”

Of Texas shelters that reported adoption data, DAS led all shelters in adoption by volume – performing over 4,000 more adoptions than the second highest reporting city, El Paso.
