Fifteen amendments were submitted by council members prior to the Budget Workshop meeting. Of those amendments, four were withdrawn and seven amendments failed to receive support from the majority of council members.

Three amendments received positive support from the majority of council members, with two using the American Rescue Plan Act funds and one using General Funds allocated for the budget.

Those amendments include reallocating traffic calming funds to operating expenses for the District 8 Office, adding one-time funding to keep the Skillman Southwestern Branch Library open three days per week and increasing funds for street maintenance.

During the Sept. 17 meeting, the council will vote to authorize the ad valorem tax rate ceiling to not exceed 70.22 cents, as established Aug. 27. At that meeting, the city council voted to allow 0.25 cents of the General Funds portion of the tax rate to be restored to the previous budget.

An additional amendment focusing on emergency management and crisis response funding was held for consideration on Sept. 17, where the Second Reading of the budget will later request council approval.
