Dallas ISD families and friends, it’s Texas State Fair season, and while the fair is going strong, so are our Dallas ISD schools, which have been rocking and rolling for a couple months. Below, you can find updates on the Dallas ISD school board and District 7.
Sunset High School & Rosemont Upper celebrate 100 years: Recently, I had the distinct honor to attend two different centennial celebrations on the same day. The first, for the newly transformed Sunset High School, and later that afternoon, to visit the brand-new Rosemont Upper campus. Now, we’re looking forward to the next 100 years!
Dallas ISD leads the way in workforce readiness: About a decade ago, Dallas ISD embarked on an ambitious journey to ensure our students had access to cutting edge pathways to prepare them for high-wage, high-demand jobs in addition to strong academic foundations. Today, we have four Career Institutes built across the metroplex and countless other innovations, which were highlighted by the Dallas Morning News, as well as on NPR’s Texas Standard Podcast.
Embracing AI: Thanks to a generous Texas Instruments Foundation grant, Dallas ISD is partnering with Educate Texas to support teaching methods relating to challenging math concepts through personalized feedback.
College and Career Readiness (2025 Goals): In September, we received an update on our progress of ensuring our students are college and career ready. We met this goal, and here are some related data points:
- Texas Success Initiative Readiness: 2024 graduates showed a 25% increase, reaching 59% overall; Dallas ISD also posted one of the largest urban gains in college readiness test results (+8%). Preliminary 2025 college readiness test results show slight growth in this area.
- Industry-Based Certifications: While the district met targets, percentages declined due to the new TEA rule requiring two courses + exam (vs. the previous one course + exam).
Dallas ISD Bond construction and planning: Across the district, campus upgrades funded by the 2020 Bond continue and more information can be found on the Bond website. Bond 2026 discussions are taking place with the Citizens Bond Steering Committee meetings in full swing. The meeting schedule can be found here.
