The Bishop Arts Theatre Center produces Langston Hughes’ “Black Nativity” every December. But this year’s production is likely to attract even more attention than usual because of an upcoming film adaptation of the 1961 play that tells the story of the Nativity with an African American cast, focusing on gospel music.
The “Black Nativity” movie stars Mary J. Blige, Nas, Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett and Forest Whitaker. It opens on Thanksgiving.
The play at Bishop Arts theater opens Dec. 16, and auditions are from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.
Actors, singers, dancers and storytellers of all races and between the ages of 16 and 65 are encouraged to audition. More information is here.
