On Friday night, 17-year-old David Washington was shot and killed at the Love’s gas station on Polk Street. Dallas ISD confirmed to FOX 4 that Washington was a senior at Kimball High School and played on the football team.

According to Dallas police, a large crowd gathered at the gas station across the street from John Kincaide Stadium, where Duncanville beat South Oak Cliff in a game that night,  just before 11 p.m.

Police say a group of people started following Washington and a fight started. Someone pulled out a gun and shot him. Washington was taken to the hospital where he died.

On Saturday, police arrested a 16-year-old and charged them with murder. Police did not identify the 16-year-old due to their age.

According to a community post on social media, there will be a balloon release for Washington at Kimball High School on Monday night. Dallas ISD officials announced that Kimball High School will receive additional mental health specialists and personnel to support students and staff.

Gary Cleveland has known David since he was 8 years old when he started coaching him in little league football, according to CBS News.

“He was Dallas’ kid, Oak Cliff’s kid, everyone feels like David was their own son,” said Gary Cleveland.
