An Oak Cliff artist was part of creating a new mural in Trinity Groves dedicated to NBA star Luka Dončić, who was traded to the Lakers in a move that was devastating for Dallas Mavericks fans.
Oak Cliff’s Armando Aguirre, as well as Gustavo Briseno and Travis Avila teamed up with Juan Velazquez, a Fort Worth-based artist to create the mural at 343 Singleton Blvd. They raised $2,000 to cover the cost of paint and equipment to scale the wall.
The left side of the mural featured the Dallas skyline with the words “Luka Magic” written in cursive. On the right, Dončić was portrayed from two angles.
“It would have been dope for us to win a championship with him,” Aguirre told the Dallas Morning News. “Instead of a goodbye Luka, it’s a thank you.”
