For the month of August, Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is partnering with NBCUniversal Local’s 11th annual Clear The Shelters campaign. The pet adoption and donation campaign will take place throughout the month, with an extended fundraising initiative lasting to Sept. 15.
Inspired by a 2014 North Texas pet adoption event hosted by NBC 5 / KXAS and Telemundo 39 / KXTX, both NBC and Telemundo stations nationwide are partnering with animal shelter rescues in the community to promote pet adoption and raise funds that support animal welfare. Over the past ten years, the campaign has helped nearly 1.2 million pets find new homes raising more than $5 million to participants.
“Dallas Animal Services is proud to once again join NBCUniversal’s Clear The Shelters campaign this August. This national movement shines a light on the urgent need for pet adoptions and community support. With hundreds of pets in our care, now is the perfect time to adopt, donate, and help us clear the shelters together,” said Paul Ramon, director of DAS.
Accessibility to participate is no issue, as virtual pet adoptions are returning for the seventh consecutive year through WeRescue, allowing users to search based on breed, gender, size and other factors, submit applications, and ask questions directly to the shelter.
The fundraiser comes at a time where DAS is having to limit the number of dogs accepted in the shelter due to identified cases of Canine Distemper Virus reported Saturday. Current exposed dogs are being quarantined in DAS, but to ensure the safety of community and shelter, intakes have been limited.
