The Advocate has been part of our neighborhood for nearly 30 years. Lots of our loyal readers run small businesses that are facing crippling financial issues now. As a small business ourselves, we know where you’re coming from, and we want to do our part to support your business.

This is a free special section to promote locally owned businesses impacted by the coronavirus crisis.

When all of this is over, we want your business standing strong. When all of this is over, the Advocate will be here, too.

The Texas Theatre opened on San Jacinto Day, April 21, 1931. The Texas Theatre was the novelty of “Uncle Mack”, a longtime Oak Cliff resident and entrepreneur. His dream was to build a theater with state-of-the-art projection and sound equipment. In 2001, a non-profit 501(3)c — the Oak Cliff Foundation — purchased the building and renovated and upgraded it. The Texas Theatre was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. After rebranding and holding a series of curated free screenings, The OCF was approached by Barak Epstein with a plan to reopen the theater into a fully functioning cinema and events center. The new operations began via a grand re-opening in Fall 2010. In 2019, The Aviation team acquired the property from the Oak Cliff Foundation to continue restoring and updating the Theatre. Today, it proudly shows blockbuster hits and films you won’t see anywhere else.
