The Cylcesomatic ride to the State Fair of Texas heads out in just an hour or so, kicking off a month of bicycle love.

Cyclesomatic started four years ago, with the tagline “ten days of bicycle love.” That first year, it rained a lot and it was a little chilly, but cyclists lost no love. Hundreds came out for events at the old Texas Theatre, the Belmont and points all over the ‘hood.

Now Cyclesomatic takes up the whole month of October. Here are some highlights.

A “fall into fitness” family bike ride is from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Bath House Cultural Center. Rides will be between one-half mile and 5 miles, and Texas Medical Association’s Hard Hats for Little Heads Program will provide free helmets to the first 100 participants.

The annual PhotoVelo scavenger hunt starts at noon Sunday, Oct. 7, at Ten Bells Tavern.

The week-long iBike Rosemont starts Monday. Rosemont Elementary students who ride their bikes to school every day are rewarded with a group ride to Eno’s and free root beer floats on Friday.

The Wild West Bike Bonanza, presumably a bunch of people riding around in Western wear, is Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Adair’s.

Bike to City Hall is Wednesday, Oct. 17.

There is also a cargo bike building workshop, a bike rack competition, a bike-in movie and the “spooky cross” cyclocross race at Dallas Heritage Village.

Get sick, Oak Cliff. Be Cyclesomatic. The full schedule of events is here.
