Traffic signal countdowns: A good innovation by the city

Here’s something good that is happening around Dallas — as traffic signals are being replaced, it appears that some of them are receiving the "countdown" signals, which count down the number of seconds before a green light/walk signal turns yellow/red. The countdowns are handy when trying to cross a street, since it’s pretty easy to figure out I’m not going to make it across a four-lane divided street in three seconds, just like it helps to know when driving how much time I have before the green light turns yellow and then red.
