You may get a junk phone call this week, or may even have received one last week, from a Houston company offering burial and funeral services. They are apparently a well-known phone spammer, and regularly send their calls around the country.

The number is 281-504-4439, which shows up on all sorts of Internet complaint lists. Your caller ID may have the word Texas on it.

There isn’t much that can be done, other than filing a complaint with the FCC if you’re on the federal do not call list. But, as the FCC notes at the end of the complaint form, there’s no guarantee the agency will be able to do anything about the complaint. Note to local members of Congress: Now would be a good time to look at beefing up the FCC’s do not call enforcement powers.
