Privatizing the zoo: Views from around the Web

Looks like the city hands the zoo off to the private Dallas Zoological Society in October. Here is reaction from around the cyber-ether (and I still don’t understand why this had to be done in such a hurry):

• Mayor Park Cites says it’s a partnership, not a privatization, reports the Observer.

Pete Oppel: “What I did find amazing about today’s briefing was the overwhelming praise for the zoo from the council members.”

The editorial board at Dallas’ Only Daily Newspaper: “Negotiate carefully and make a smart deal that is driven by more than just budget-deficit panic.”

The Socratic Gadfly: “To compare this to the privatization of Houston’s zoo, which has more land, and is in a larger park system, somewhat comparable to Fair Park in Dallas, is ridiculous, too.”
