It’s so exciting to feel the energy in the Arts district on a performance night! Someone pinch me as last week I was able to attend a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream during the Wyly’s first performance run and now add to that the first opera at The Winspear Opera House! People were arriving from all different directions to the beautiful and modern entrance of the Winspear. Last night’s weather was a perfect night to get to stand outside during one intermission and admire the growing (and glowing) Arts District in its nightime splendor. I see a corner of the red exterior from my office but it’s wonderful to appreciate up close. Fortunately I can only comment on the experience of center orchestra seats (Row H baby!) while sitting directly under the huge chandelier. At times I felt the opera singers were looking right at us. I could feel the evil oozing from Iago and the sadness and despair from Desdemona. The live music from the orchestra filled the space with beautiful sounds, sometimes thunderous and ominous, othertimes, sweet and moving.

Many thanks to The Advocate for a memorable evening!

Can we get a review from the winner on the Othello performance, as well as the new Winspear?

    How are the acoustics?
