DISD building $21.5 million early college campus in South Dallas

The Kathlyn Joy Gilliam Collegiate Academy high school is expected to open on Camp Wisdom Road for the 2011 fall semester. DISD will break ground on the $21.5 million school this week.

When it opens, the 111,000-square-foot high school will accommodate about 500 students. It will include 24 classrooms, an observation deck, a tiered lecture pavilion, an amphitheater and indoor/outdoor common spaces.

The school will be DISD’s second early-college high school. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for college, and the school’s atmosphere mirrors that of a college.
