Brace your arteries because it’s time for this year’s game of “What Else Can We Stick in the Deep Fryer?”, also known as the Big Tex Choice Awards. Last year, we dug on deep-fried butter, and honestly, I can’t understand what took them so long on that one.
This year’s State Fair of Texas all-fried-everything offerings include three deep-fried beverages: beer, frozen margaritas and lemonade. There’s also a deep-fried club salad, you know, if you wanna be healthy like that, plus fried chocolate, s’mores Pop Tarts, Texas caviar and, for the most discriminating junk foodies, deep-fried Frito pie.
By the way, the Advocate‘s own wine guy, Jeff Siegel, will be at the State Fair of Texas wine garden talking about all Texas wines several times a day. Hey, maybe we should stick WINE in the deep fryer next year! C’mon, we can win this, Jeff.
