A group of Oak Cliff neighbors who believe “local food starts in their own backyard” are opening their yards for a chicken coop tour Saturday, Oct. 22.

The Oak Cliff Coop Snoop tour, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., will be free. Proceeds from T-shirts, sold at Repotted, will benefit learning gardens at Lida Hooe and Rosemont elementary schools.

Event organizer Carrie Lackey says she is on a mission to show the city that anyone with enough room for a coop can raise healthy, happy chickens.

The tour of about 12 coops will be on the same day as the second-annual Blues, Bandits and BBQ festival, which this year will be at Lake Cliff Park.
