Norma’s gives $1,000 to D.C.-bound Rosemont students

Norma’s Cafe donated $1,000 Friday to sixth-graders at Rosemont Elementary School who are headed to President Obama’s inauguration ceremony in Washington, D.C. next month.

In total, the students received $1,600 in a ceremony prior to a Grandparents Day lunch in the school’s upper campus cafeteria. Go Oak Cliff donated $500, and real estate developer Craig Schenkel donated $100. Eighteen donors have given nearly $2,000 online.

All but about 10 of the 60 or so sixth graders raised their hands to say the January trip would be their first airplane ride.
