The Garden Lady: The freeze is gone

cantaloupeThe frost season is over, so it’s game on for planting. I personally planted 25 tomatoes Wednesday for clients.

Now it is time to plant, or replant if some of your fruits and vegetables were frozen. I did have to replant a few peppers and one squash today. Take a look at the following list for items to plant now and how much space they need.

Happy gardening, and remember to plant your tomatoes deep. A handful of worm casting and dash of alfalfa in the hole goes a long way.

Strawberries 1 per square foot
Sugar snap peas Teepee trellis, 3 per square foot
Corn 1 per square foot, pollinated by wind
Blackberries 1 per 4 square feet
Beans 4 per square foot
Squash 1 per square foot if trellis, or 1 per 4 square feet
Cucumbers 1 per square foot if trellis, or 1 per 4 square feet
Sorrel 1 per square foot
Watermelon 1 per square foot if trellis, or 1 per 4 square feet
Cantaloupe 1 per square foot if trellis, or 1 per 4 square feet
Southern peas 1 per square foot
Okra 1 per square foot
Peppers 1 per square foot
Sweet potatoes Plant slips, 1 per square foot
