The Elmwood man who was the first person to contract West Nile Virus in Dallas County this season has died. The man, who was over 60 years old, contracted an aggressive form of the mosquito-borne virus in August.
Twenty people in Dallas County died of West Nile last year. A study released this week from a scientific journal indicates that global climate change could be causing the virus’s increasing prevalence.
