newsOak Cliff native Mike Rhyner will be inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in a ceremony Nov. 1. Rhyner started with KZEW in the 1970s and in 1993 helped start up KTCK, where he is still on air as part of the Hardline.

Dallas Police busted an illegal gambling room in Elmwood, thanks to the intrepid detective work of Elmwood Neighborhood Association president Kenneth Denson. Seriously, this is a guy who cares about his neighborhood enough to put his neck on the line.  Check out his story, from Unfair Park:

At least one member of the community tried to take matters into his own hands. Kenneth Denson, president of the Elmwood Neighborhood Association, camped out behind a trash bin to take photos of the casino on his walk home from one of the association’s meetings one night in April.

“I didn’t realize that where I was positioning myself was basically behind this illegal operation’s overflow parking,” Denson said, “so people pulled up right behind and saw me taking pictures.”

The Open Carry Guitar Rally on July 4 was a huge success. Hundreds of people showed up with their axes in hand, jam sessions broke out openly, and open-carry zealots were duly parodied.
