The Oak Cliff Disc Golf Club raised about $9,000 and plans to have a 12-hole course ready for exhibition during the Lake Cliff Park Centennial Celebration Sept. 20.
The club will stage a tournament during the celebration at Founders Park, where a permanent disc golf course is planned. Anyone can play, and the club is seeking feedback on how the course design could be improved.
“We’re trying to use those dead spaces where nothing’s going on,” says the club’s founder, Zac Lytle. “Founder’s Park is so empty. It’s not safe. That’s the major benefit of disc golf is getting more legitimate users in there.”
Go Oak Cliff raised about $4,000, and Lytle raised about $5,000 in memory of his infant son, Roger William Lytle, who died in April. The course will be named for Roger Lytle.
