News roundup: High home prices, gentrification, crime

newsOak Cliff and a few other areas of southern Dallas County had the highest home price gains last year, when Dallas as a whole had the highest home price gains on record. And experts predict they will continue to rise this year because of high demand and a tight market.

This thing about “the myth of gentrification” from the Dallas Morning Views blog is kind of interesting: “Meanwhile, the Latino population of Oak Cliff remains largely stable and, in fact, is growing — as it is citywide, particularly in Dallas’ southern half. And the aging white population is being replaced by two-income-no-kids couples … who are increasingly becoming couples with children.”

Police are investigating a couple of possibly related smash-and-grab ATM robberies, one of which was at a convenience store on Hampton at Fort Worth Avenue.
