Today is the last Monday that the Houston Street Viaduct will be closed for the project that brought us the streetcar.
The bridge closed in March 2013 for track construction, sidewalk widening and road reconstruction. At the same time, the city reconfigured the Jefferson Viaduct for two-way traffic, plus a two-way cycle track.
The Houston Street bridge is expected to reopen to cars by the afternoon of Monday, May June 29.
The Oak Cliff-bound lane on the Jefferson Viaduct will be closed beginning next week. It is expected to take about a week to reconfigure the Jefferson bridge for three one-way lanes of Oak Cliff-to-Downtown traffic. The city also has plans to improve the cycle track.
