Watch: A song from Edie Brickell’s new Broadway musical

Oak Cliff native Edie Brickell wrote a musical with Steve Martin.

It’s called “Bright Star,” and it opens on Broadway March 24. The duo appeared on “The Tonight Show” Monday, and the cast of “Bright Star” performed a song from the show, “Sun’s Gonna Shine.”

Here’s that performance:

And below is the interview with Brickell and Martin. Martin says, “I think this is the apex of my career,” writing and producing a musical with Edie Brickell. They describe the show as set in the 1920s and ’40s, and that it’s about a woman who learns a secret about her life.

Martin and Brickell have released two bluegrass albums together: “Love has Come for You” in 2013 and “So Familiar” this past October. The title track on “Love Has Come for You” won the Grammy for best American roots song in 2014.
