Paul died from a gunshot wound in the 1900 block, and police initially couldn’t identify him because he wasn’t carrying identification. The man lived with his partner, Jeff Phillips, near Kiest Park, according to the Dallas Voice.

“[The police] told me he didn’t have a wallet on him when they found him, and I haven’t been able to find his wallet here at the house,” Phillips told the Voice. “His cell phone is pass-code locked. They asked me if I know his pass code, but I don’t. He didn’t know mine either.”

Phillips told the weekly that renovations at their house had irritated his partner’s asthma, so Paul had left the house around 9 p.m. to sleep elsewhere the night he was killed.

Police responded to a shooting call around 1 a.m. May 19 and found Paul lying  in the street with a gunshot wound to the chest. No suspect has been identified.
