A fatal shooting and a hit-and-run car accident left two men dead in Oak Cliff overnight in separate incidents.

The first incident happened in the 600 block of South Westmoreland around 9 p.m. Wednesday. A man who had stopped to help a motorist when he was struck by a 2007 blue GMC Yukon.

Witnesses told the Dallas Police Department the SUV was speeding and that the driver lost control and struck a utility pole and the man. The driver of the SUV jumped out of the vehicle and ran away. The man he struck, Timothy C. McGraw, died at the scene.

The second death happened around 1 this morning in the 1900 block of Elmwood. Police responded to a shooting call and found a man lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the chest. The man had no identification on him, and no suspect has been identified. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office is trying to identify the victim by fingerprint analysis.
