Texas Rangers pitcher Cole Hamels gave $5,500 to Winnetka Elementary School in Oak Cliff Tuesday.

The money will be used to upgrade physical education equipment.

The gift, from the Hamels Foundation, is one of three totaling $35,000 to Dallas schools and a nonprofit.

The foundation also gave $5,000 to Adelfa Botello Callejo Elementary School in Pleasant Grove. Another $25,000 was given to the MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street in West Dallas. That will pay for new educational classrooms.
