The staff at Norma’s Cafe in Oak Cliff is always upbeat, but they are missing a friend this week.

Officer Brent Thompson, 43, was a DART cop and one of five police officers killed in sniper fire during a protest in Downtown Dallas Thursday. He was the first DART policeman ever killed in the line of duty.

Thompson was a Norma’s regular who has children and grandchildren, and he was soon to be married, according to WFAA.

A photo taken of Thompson sitting in a booth at Norma’s has appeared in news stories all over the country about last week’s tragedy.
