Norma’s sign thief speaks

The woman who stole a police memorial sign from Norma’s Cafe has apologized.

Norma’s posted to social media a screen shot from a security camera that caught her, and the post quickly went viral. The sign had been given to Norma’s by the family of slain DART police officer Brent Thompson, who was a Norma’s regular. The sign, which has been returned, reads “Back the Blue in honor of Officer Brent Thompson.”

The woman, who says she’s received death threats and didn’t want her name used,  told CBS 11 via Skype that she thought it was “political propaganda.” She lives in Austin and is on tour with her band.
