An Oak Cliff woman is accused of shooting a Kansas mother to death and stealing her baby.

Police say 34-year-old Yesenia Sesmas faked a pregnancy for months before the crime and traveled to Wichita, where an acquaintance recently had given birth. Sesmas is accused of shooting Laura Abarca-Nogueda, 27, and kidnapping her 6-day-old baby, Sophia, on Thursday.

The baby was found unharmed inside Sesmas’ home following the woman’s arrest by the Dallas SWAT unit around 4 a.m. Saturday. The baby was reunited with her family Saturday evening.

The investigation involved local police in Dallas and Kansas as well as the FBI. Sesmas was arrested on a felony warrant and charged with first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping out of Kansas.
