The first African American to lead “The Bachelorette” makes her debut Monday, May 22.
Rachel Lindsay, who is from Oak Cliff, is the 13th bachelorette in the ABC show’s history.
Saturday Night Live, in sketch that was cut from the televised production, makes fun of the show for waiting so long to cast a person of color in the lead. In 21 seasons of “The Bachelor,” no black man has been cast as the lead.
As a voiceover during the spoof says, “One charming and accomplished lawyer … 25 hot dummies.”
