The Dallas Police Department arrested a 17-year-old who they say caused the crash that pushed a patrol 30 feet into an Oak Cliff creek last week.

Ivory Keith Nails is accused of driving the white Chevrolet Silverado that struck officer Dale Ordogne’s marked police car. The crash launched Ordogne’s car into the creek below. Bystanders rushed to the officer’s aid; about a dozen people climbed into the creek to attempt to push the car upright. Ordogne was taken to the hospital.

Police received a tip that Nails had been driving the truck and that he hangs around the apartments on Westmoreland and Pentagon Parkway.

Officers saw Nails get into a car at the Tierra Linda Apartments around 6 p.m. Saturday. They arrested him after a traffic stop on an outstanding theft warrant out of Dallas County. The car he was riding in was found to have been stolen from Plano, according to police.

Nails has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and failure to stop and render aid. If convicted of the latter, he could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
