Former Dallas Observer and D Magazine writer Paul Kix brings his new book, “The Saboteur,” to the Wild Detectives Thursday from 7:30-9 p.m. The biography “illuminates an unsung hero of the French Resistance during World War II, Robert de La Rochefoucald, an aristocrat turned anti-Nazi saboteur.”

Shinyribs performs at The Kessler Friday; Jim Suhler and Monkey Beat arrive Saturday.

The Texas Theatre has “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” all weekend, plus a Studio 54-themed New Year’s Eve shindig.

Also on New Year’s Eve: Dancing and desserts with the Singapore Slingers at the Kessler. And Oak Cliff bands the Fox and the Bird and Happy Bullets (named after the gunfire we’ll be hearing that night) perform at the Foundry.
