Rapper J. Cole gives Oak Cliff a shoutout

J. Cole comes to Dallas this week for a show at American Airlines Arena, and we already know he likes it here.

The North Carolina-based rapper shouts out Dallas and Oak Cliff specifically in a new track released last week.

It’s a freestyle over Nas and the Bravehearts’ “Oochie Wally” called “Album of the Year.” He says, “Shout out Oak Cliff, I’m ’bout to fly to Dallas. Decade from now I might just buy the Mavericks. What up Mark Cuban…”

The lines came a few days after Oak Cliff-based rapper C. Struggs died of cancer.

Quite a few rappers have come out of Oak Cliff, starting with Nemesis in the late 1980s, and two of The Fader’s recent list of five “under-the-radar rappers from Dallas-Fort Worth” are from Oak Cliff.
