After Dana Jones and her husband bought the old Cannon’s Village shopping center on West Davis at Edgefield, she wanted to take pilates classes at a studio in the Park Cities.

She works at Medical City Dallas, and her sons go to school outside of Oak Cliff. Since pilates studios don’t usually have showers, it was nearly impossible to do pilates, go home to shower and drop off her kids at school before work.

The family lives in an apartment above the 1922 shopping center.

“Since we own that building, and we had the Cozy Cottage moving out, I thought I’d just do it myself,” she says.

Duro Pilates opened a couple of weeks ago at 1314 W. Davis.

Jones’ class starts at 5:45 a.m., but she knows most people don’t want it that early. A 9:30 a.m. class has been popular so far, she says.

With 12 appointments per class and four instructors, they still have plenty of room for new students, so they want to hear from potential clients what times are most convenient.

“I want it to be a place for neighbors to come and do pilates without going outside the neighborhood,” she says.
