Dallas ISD Trustee Ben Mackey, District 7
Welcome back!
I hope the summer break has recharged your energy as we prepare to dive into this school year beginning Monday, Aug. 19. Each year is a new opportunity to bring positive change and I encourage all faculty, families and communities to be a part of this wave. Dallas ISD has many amazing things going for it and I’m excited to partner with you this school year!
As your new Dallas ISD trustee, I would like to thank each of you for entrusting my goals and vision for greater excellence in all schools and giving me this exciting opportunity to serve you. I spent the last six years as a principal here in Dallas ISD at the School for the Talented and Gifted at Townview Magnet Center and I’m excited to bring that experience to bear in this new role as your Dallas ISD trustee. I will work to communicate and authentically engage our communities to impact their schools. I am confident this school year will prove to be enriching and productive as we continue our mission in developing young minds into innovative and compassionate learners.
I am honored to serve this community and invite each of you to join me on this exciting journey as we propel students to new heights. I welcome your voices and value your perspective, and I believe, together, we can accomplish excellence in education. If you’re interested in reaching out to me or getting involved, please email me at BenMackey@dallasisd.org.
What I’ve Been Up To:
- Visiting Schools: I’ve continued my quest to meet with all District 7 principals and visit every school to get a deeper understanding of the needs of each of our school communities. So far, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting 10 of our 31 District 7 schools.
- Individual Constituent Meetings: Last month, I had over 25 1-on-1 coffees with parents, educators, and community members to learn their perspectives regarding our Dallas schools.
- Coordination between City & District: City Council member Chad West and I have continued to find ways to break down the silos that the city and district usually operate in, working to create joint task forces for community projects and build stronger communication systems. Be on the lookout for more ways to get involved.
