Oak Cliff brought together Amie Maciszewski and Jamal Mohamed.
She is a master sitarist with a doctorate in ethnomusicology. He is a percussionist known for his virtuosity on the doumbek, or “goblet drum,” who teaches percussion at SMU, where he leads the Meadows World Music Ensemble.
The two neighbors began performing together, and they put together a peace concert for Sept. 11.
Maciszewski’s Sangeet Millennium, which promotes music and dance from the Indian subcontinent, observes 9/11 with Declare World Peace, a performance with world music, dance and poetry from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Unity of Dallas on Forest Lane.
