Are you accustomed to “happy bullets” in your neighborhood? Don’t be. If you hear shooting, call 911. Yes, the Dallas Police Department might be too busy to come out and investigate. But police say that reporting random gunfire could help your neighborhood in the bigger picture.

Take the Oak Cliff couple who were awoken by gunfire in the middle of the night a couple of weeks ago. The following morning, they discovered that a bullet had pierced the window, gone through their TV and lodged in a wall near the bed where they were sleeping.

They told responding police officers that gunfire is common in their neighborhood.

“I asked why isn’t there more patrolling around here, if this happens every weekend,” Carmen Ayala told KXAS. “And the answer to that is: There’s been no reports.”
