The rec center was ravaged over the July 4 weekend, along with several other publicly owned properties in that area. The Kiest Park tennis center, the Hampton Illinois Library and Jimmie Tyler Brashear Elementary also were damaged in a three-day spree, City Councilwoman Carolyn King Arnold says.

Less than a week later, vandals targeted another Oak Cliff recreation center, John C. Phelps, on July 10.

“It’s like they’ve been on a rampage the past couple of nights,” Arnold says in a video survey of the destruciton at Kiest Park. “This is a sad day.”

The vandals smashed dozens of windows, kicked in doors, broke computers, wreaked havoc on the exercise room and destroyed vending machines.

The Dallas Police Department told WFAA that they have photos of suspects that they’re trying to locate.
