The president of Central Market mentioned the company’s plans for a store in Oak Cliff during an interview last week.

Stephen Butt told the Dallas Morning News that the planned store in Uptown was delayed by the pandemic. That’s because the store is part of a $200-million project that includes an office tower and a hotel. Now that the market for offices and hotels has diminished, developer KDC is redrawing its plans. They’re reworking the project to eliminate the hotel and most of the office space and instead build the maximum number of residences possible.

Central Market bought a piece of land on Beckley Avenue at Davis Street, part of the former Dallas County Schools headquarters, in 2017. But no dirt has turned since then.

Here’s what Butt told the newspaper:

We’re excited about our property in Bishop Arts and it’s very much on the drawing board. We’re not standing still in any way. We’re looking for the right developer that can help us with that project. We expect to be putting more time into working on that in the coming year.
