Tippit contracted COVID-19 and had congestive heart failure for years previous to that, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Tippit was married to Dallas Police officer J.D. Tippit, who was gunned down at Tenth Street and Patton Avenue, near Adamson High School, on Nov. 22, 1963. The Warren Commission Report concluded that Oswald shot President John F. Kennedy at 12:30 p.m. in Dealey Plaza. About 45 minutes later, Tippit stopped Oswald, who had taken a bus to Oak Cliff and was walking on Patton. Oswald shot him five times.

Here’s what the crime scene looked like that day.

Marie Tippit frequently visited the site where her husband was killed for more than 40 years before Oak Cliff neighbors and advocates including journalist Brad Watson of WFAA pushed for a Texas historical marker at the site, which was erected in 2012.

Michael Amonett, who was then president of what is now Heritage Oak Cliff, says the memorial made her so happy.

“She was so kind, appreciative and moved,” he says. “I won’t ever forget her sweet face.”

Here are Amonett’s photos from the day of the dedication, Nov. 20, 2012.
