Bristow is the mind and the muscle behind much of the effort to return Twelve Hills Nature Center to its native blackland prairie habitat, an ongoing endeavor to which she has donated countless hours of service. She is also a volunteer for Friends of Oak Cliff Parks and active with Kidd Springs Central neighborhood association and Friends of Kidd Springs Park and Recreation Center.

The award honors those “whose service positively impacts communities … and inspires those around them to take action, too.”

She was nominated for the presidential service award by City of Dallas Parks Department employee Sam Franklin. She was also given an award from the park department.

Read about how Bristow was bitten by a 6-foot rattlesnake during her volunteer work and virtually died last year and details on the work she and other volunteers have accomplished at Twelve Hills.
