The Visual & Performing Arts Department at Dallas ISD has done it again. For the second year in a row, it has received the Best Communities for Music Education Award.
The award was given by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation, which “celebrates and promotes the intrinsic value of music education.”
“Dallas ISD is proud to offer the highest quality music education programs to every student across the District and would like to take this opportunity to thank our students, teachers, community partners, administrators, and trustees for the support that makes this award possible,” Jenny Fridge, DISD’s director of operations of Visual & Performing Arts, tells The Hub.
This year, the foundation recognized 686 school districts in 40 states for this award, now in its 22nd year. The BCME program assesses schools and districts based on funding, staffing, dedication to standards and access to music instruction.
“In past years, schools and districts had to work hard to create successful music and arts communities,” says Mary Luehrsen, the executive director of The NAMM Foundation. “But, never before has the battle been so hard-fought against silence and a feeling of isolation. We applaud with all our hearts the commitment of so many to assure students continue with deep and rich music learning.”
