Macias received a four-year full academic ride to attend Stanford University, where he will double major in biology and Mexican-American studies.

His sister Sophia was valedictorian of Sunset in 2017. She recently graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in physics. She’s pursuing a teaching certificate this summer and already has a job at Kimball High School. Sophia told me recently that professors at UT encouraged her to pursue a master’s degree, but she says she feels called to serve her community through Dallas ISD.

Their brother, Elijah, was valedictorian of Sunset in 2019. He’s currently a junior at UT Austin, majoring in electrical engineering.

All three attended Rosemont, Greiner and Sunset. The two brothers were part of the first dual-language classes at Rosemont Elementary.

Their baby sister, Elise, will be in sixth grade next school year, attending Jesus Moroles Expressive Arts Vanguard, formerly known as Sidney Lanier. Incidentally, that school was renamed recently for her cousin, a sculptor who grew up in Oak Cliff and died in 2015.

Noah Macias was a ballet folklórico dancer and was involved in theater at Greiner and Sunset. He was Mr. LULAC in 2019 and was the Texas state chairman for the LULAC LGBTQ commission.

His parents are Andy Ramirez and Fermin Macias. Watch Noah’s valedictorian address below.
