The Local Oak will close at the end of this year when its lease expires.

Alamo Manhattan, which has already redeveloped two corners of Zang at Davis with multistory apartments and retail, bought the property in December 2016. The developer owns the whole block, which also includes Ten Bells Tavern.

Construction of the streetcar stop and stormwater infrastructure slowed business, and just when it was all over, restaurants everywhere took a hit.

“The pandemic really took the wind out of our sails,” Local Oak owner Alycen Cuellar says.

She’s planning a long goodbye as well as a Christmas party before the restaurant closes.

While Ten Bells has found a new location nearby, The Local Oak’s future is less certain, although Cuellar says she is working on some ideas for relocation.

“The hardest part is that we love our people,” she says. “Our customers are our friends and family.”

The Local Oak is open noon-9 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m.-9 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.
