The application states that the hotel currently has 73 rooms and would be renovated to create 40 “dwelling units for supportive housing.”

City Council approved the city’s purchase of the property for $3.5 million at the end of last year, using federal C.A.R.E.S. Act funds.

The plan at that time was to use the hotel to quarantine homeless Dallas residents who tested positive for COVID-19. Now the hotel will be used for supportive/transitional housing for stints of about two years. It will have a caseworker onsite 24 hours, plus security.

A hearing for the zoning case has not yet been scheduled.
