Heritage Oak Cliff put on the inaugural Passport Oak Cliff last month to showcase our neighborhood and raise funds for its preservation and enhancement.

Disclosure: The Advocate was a sponsor.

The self-guided POC neighborhood tour included stops at local breweries, historical homes, neighborhood gardens, the cultural center, to name but a few, along with concerts by Sweatin’ Bullets and Happy Campers and parties.

What a ride!, according to organizers, who issued a report declaring the fundraiser a success.

“We did it!” notes Trudy Newton in the latest Heritage Oak Cliff newsletter.

Specifically the event drew a $21,300 profit.

Newton thanks fellow members of the steering committee, Jim Hauck, Travis Lee Moore, Mike Matthews, Barbara Macleod, Susan Lee, Austin Miller and Steven Shnayder.

“We had to flesh out what the structure of POC was going to look and feel like—a daunting task! And, finally we had it—14 unique neighborhood attractions, 2 after-parties with raffles and an interactive artwork, plus 2 concerts.”

Heritage Oak Cliff also serves as an umbrella group for various neighborhood organizations, so 14 of them got involved with the passport event.

“It took creativity and hard work to develop each neighborhood attraction. Each was special and unique, reflecting the diversity of the Oak Cliff community,” Newton reports, adding that sponsors and raffle prize donors made a huge contribution to the event’s success.

As a relatively new Oak Cliff resident, I took personal interest in the tour, and I thank Wynnewood North’s Gail Mitchell for filling me in a bit on her ‘hood …

and introducing me to the local labyrinth on S. Manus.
