A plan for a pedestrian connection between West Dallas neighborhoods and the Trinity River calls fo reducing automobile traffic on the Sylvan Avenue bridge.
Simon Engineering recently won the contract to design The Loop, a planned 50-mile pedestrian connection around Dallas.
The firm suggests reducing the Sylvan Avenue bridge from six lanes of car traffic to two. That would make room for a 9-foot trail and two 5-foot bike lanes.
“While the final design is still under development, a reduction in driving lanes on the bridge from six lanes to four would drastically increase the safety of drivers, walkers and bikers alike by reducing the speed vehicles drive across the bridge,” the nonprofit The Loop stated in an email blast.
