Way before the Googleplex or even the multiplex, there was the Metroplex.
The Dallas/Fort Worth area, a low-key tech hub for decades, is now among the most “cutting-edge” cities in the United States, according to a recent report.
Dallas ranks No. 17 on CommercialCafe’s tally, which counted green building practices, electric-vehicle charging stations, bike-sharing, broadband availability and technology jobs.
Here’s what the report said about the Dallas area:
- 20.19% of businesses here are startups – the 3rd highest percentage in the country, surpassed only by Austin and Salt Lake City;
- Almost 90% of households here have broadband access – among the highest percentages in the U.S.;
- 7.52% of the jobs in the DFW metro area are in tech or green tech, lower than Austin’s 9.52%;
- The metro also got good scores for its share of green buildings, with 17 Energy Star buildings per 100,000 residents.
